Formed in NY in 1988, Suffocation's technical death metal style is influenced by grindcore. The band uses "outrageously guttural vocals with a bottom-heavy guitar foundation, blistering speed, unparalleled brutality and sophisticated sense of songwriting, complex time changes and lead and rhythm guitar acrobatics" and frequent breakdowns.
Suffocation's second full-length album, Breeding the Spawn is often regarded by the foolish as lacking in comparison to Suffocation's other early work. However, Breeding the Spawn does alot of things right and manages to set itself apart from Effigy of the Forgotten and Pierced From Within quite a bit with a few touches unique to this album. In all actuality, this album would probably be held in even higher regard than Suffocation's other work if not for some small flaws such as the production on the album is much 'thinner' than on other albums, due to financial problems regarding their label at the time, Roadrunner Records.
