NETHERLANDS were formed in New York City in 2010 by multi-instrumentalist TIMO ELLIS whose father is an accomplished author and illustrator. ELLIS grew up exposed to a plethora of styles and formats of art, which cultivated an open mind allowing him to regularly venture outside any set musical rules and boundaries. ELLIS’ often mentions PIXELTAN, FLIPPER, and WIPERS as being the musical "spiritual precedents" here, along with the deeper/ ambient influences of BAD BRAINS, DIAMANDA GALAS, CAN and THE CARS. This has produced some of the most unique and honest music in years, establishing him as prominent fixture in the thriving NYC music and arts scene. In addition to already having an extensive solo discography, ELLIS appeared on almost 100 albums and has recorded and collaborated with the likes of JOHN ZORN, THE MELVINS, WEEN, and GIBBY HAYNES among many others.

NETHERLANDS, including ZACH EICHENHORN on drums and AVA FARBER on synthbass, was created to express ELLIS’ heavier inclinations. With two self-releases under their belt, Fantasmatic (2010) and Silicon Vapor (2012), NETHERLANDS have gigged throughout New York, supporting bands as diverse as MELT BANANA, MUTOID MAN and THE GIRAFFES. Their incendiary live shows have an intensity that simultaneously recalls the brutality of hardcore along with the palpably foreboding atmosphere reminiscent of the early proto-metal greats. Noisey described the band as "ushering in a new wave of metal pop" while CMJ called them "super fuzzed stoner rock"; both accurate characterizations of an increasingly three dimensional writing style and body of work.

When it came time for album number three, NETHERLANDS looked to work with a record label to help further and expand the band’s reach. It was shortly thereafter that they signed a worldwide deal with Los Angeles based Prosthetic Records. Their new record, AUDUBON, is a moody, noisy, sludgy juggernaut, combining murderous riffs and infectious hooks and was recorded with TOM TIERNEY of TIDAL ARMS. The musical greats are always leaders, not followers. NETHERLANDS have proven to be the front-runner of NYC's credited experimental scene, one about to spread worldwide.
